Guys, from where do you recognize these quotes: “Ride out with me!” “Men? Men are weak!” “The Ring wants to be found.” Yes, “The Lord of the Rings” by J.R.R. Tolkien, and it was Aragorn, Elrond and Gandalf who uttered those quotes (in that order).
For some time, Pastor Nate, with a love of reading, has envisioned gathering men for a book club – not so much Christian “How To” books – more classical, sometimes historical, often fiction literature. So, at the church, those men interested will gather to talk about this great book -until very recently and perhaps still the most widely read book ever written, other than the Bible.
The discussion will revolve around character motivations, plot and the world that Tolkien has built. There’s so much to talk about, such as the pervasive allegory: Aragorn as Christ, Sam as humble servant, Frodo on Mission, Gandalf as God the Father, etc. And, of course, we’ll be sharing our favorite quotes and passages!
There’s more than two months to read or reread; don’t just watch the movies!
