Preschool Ministry
Children ages 2 to 5 in our preschool classes engage with their peers and leaders in a variety of age-appropriate learning activities specially designed to bring their Bible lessons to life!
Awesome Adventure
Sunday Classes
Children are placed in their class on the first Sunday in September and remain in the same class for the entire year. New children can join at any time. Volunteers who know and love Jesus teach the same class from September through May so that children can develop a consistent relationship with their teachers.
Our Preschool Classrooms
Awesome Adventure’s secure preschool area is located primarily on the upper level of the church, outside the sanctuary. Every classroom is an age-appropriate, exciting, interactive environment, identified by a jungle animal for easy recognition. Each room contains items for a wide variety of learning activities that bring lessons to life. Bathrooms with child-sized toilets are connected to each room upstairs. We seek to maintain a 5:1 teacher-to-child ratio.

Our Curriculum
We use a curriculum called The Gospel Project by Lifeway, which presents the Bible chronologically over a three-year cycle, showing kids how the whole Bible works together to tell a single story: God’s plan to redeem His people through His Son, Jesus Christ, compelling kids to join the mission of God. All children ages two to sixth-grade study the same Bible story each week, so if you have kids in multiple grades, you can review, discuss and apply the same lessons in daily life with your family.
Special Needs Ministry
Awesome Adventure is for all children, even those who face special challenges on their adventure. We have a coordinator who helps these children and families join the adventure by partnering them with Adventure Guide buddies and meeting with parents to discuss specific needs.

Health, Safety and Security
West Shore Free Church takes our responsibility to provide a safe and secure environment for children very seriously. We have implemented a safety and security policy that protects children and reassures parents and includes:
- An electronic check-in and sticker verification system for all childcare and classes
- Background checks and an internal vetting process for all adult volunteers
- Training for teenagers interested in serving as volunteer assistants
- A health policy that asks parents to keep children with symptoms of illness home
- Regular hand washing among leaders and children and disinfecting of classrooms and facilities
- Bathrooms with child-sized toilets are connected to each room so children are never left unattended.
- We seek to maintain a low teacher-to-child ratio of 5 to 1 in preschool
